SANCTUARY OF THE FIREFLIES

Just the first six months of the year and Santa Rita Tlahuapan, Puebla, seems to be submerged in a winter environment and nobody has put a series of lights to decorate the oyamel trees, so why do they shine?

It is enough to get a little closer and realize that the ephemeral light comes from the fireflies that during the months of June, July and August take possession of the Poblano natural space and how each year they arrive there to mate, providing the attendees with a natural spectacle that It will leave you breathless.

The fireflies are luminous friends, they are an endemic species of this forest in the State of Puebla. If you imagine that the fireflies travel to reach the forest, you are in error, because the fireflies of the forests of Santa Rita Tlahuapan are a species that lives permanently in them. Only in the months of June, July and part of August is the time of their mating and light up to be noticed. In Mexico, the number of recorded firefly species is 164, of which 84 are endemic.
